Digestin Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Progressive Professional from Progressive Laboratories
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Digestin against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Digestin by Progressive Professional from Progressive Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Digestin is a digestive enzyme blend with 10 active ingredients designed to support your digestive system. It contains proteolytic enzymes (protease and pepsin) to help break down proteins, lipase to work on fats, amylase for carbohydrates, and cellulase for plant fiber.
It also includes betaine hydrochloride to increase stomach acid, plus papain from papaya, and includes tissue extracts from the stomach, pancreas, duodenum, and bile to mimic the body's own digestive secretions. The capsule itself is gelatin, with stearic acid, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for betaine hydrochloride supporting indigestion, low thyroid function, diarrhea, rheumatoid arthritis, food allergies, and hay fever is insufficient — we don't have reliable data backing its use for these. The same goes for papain across cancer, tooth decay, radiation burn recovery, exercise soreness, shingles, and parasite infection.
For lipase, protease, and pepsin, we hold no effectiveness ratings in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Betaine hydrochloride is not safe for people with ulcers, gastritis, or true acid reflux, as it increases stomach acid and could worsen these conditions or trigger heartburn. Papain is generally tolerated as a food but may cause digestive tract irritation and allergic reactions in supplement form; in sensitive people, allergic reactions can include itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and diarrhea.
Protease and pepsin are generally well tolerated but may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions in some people. Regarding pregnancy, betaine hydrochloride should be avoided — there isn't enough safety data.
Papain from concentrated sources or unripe papaya should also be avoided in pregnancy. Lipase, protease, and pepsin have limited pregnancy data; talk with your doctor before using if you're pregnant.
For breastfeeding, betaine hydrochloride should be avoided, papain use is not recommended without medical advice, and the same caution applies to lipase, protease, and pepsin.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take warfarin (a blood thinner), check with your doctor before using this product — papain may increase its effects in unpredictable ways. Similarly, if you're on H2-blockers like famotidine, antacids, or proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole, let your pharmacist know, because betaine hydrochloride could reduce their effectiveness.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Digestin is a multi-enzyme digestive aid that's generally well tolerated, but if you're on warfarin, an H2-blocker, an antacid, or a PPI, or if you have ulcers or gastritis, you need to check with your pharmacist before starting. Pregnant or breastfeeding people should talk with their doctor first.

Digestin by Progressive Professional from Progressive Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Digestin by Progressive Professional from Progressive Laboratories contains two ingredients with documented interactions.
Papain carries a Moderate interaction with warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner. A case report describes a patient stable on warfarin whose blood-thinning levels spiked dangerously after taking a papain-containing supplement; the mechanism isn't fully understood, but it's a real concern worth discussing with your doctor if you're on this medication.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Betaine hydrochloride has Minor interactions with three classes of stomach medications: H2-blockers (like famotidine), antacids, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs, like omeprazole). Betaine increases stomach acid, which could blunt the effects of these acid-reducing drugs.
If you take any of them and want to try this product, your doctor or pharmacist should weigh whether that trade-off makes sense.
We could not check interactions for cellulase, amylase, stomach substance, bile powder, and duodenal substance — we hold no data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 38 individual medications.
Use the medication checker below with your exact prescriptions before starting.

Betaine Hydrochloride
Antacids
Betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acidity and could decrease the effects of antacids.
In human research, betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acidity. Antacids are taken to decrease stomach acidity. Theoretically, taking betaine hydrochloride along with antacids might decrease the effects of the antacids.
H2-Blockers
Betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acidity and could decrease the effects of H2-blockers.
In human research, betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acidity. H2-blockers are used to decrease stomach acidity. Theoretically, taking betaine hydrochloride along with H2-blockers might decrease the effects of H2-blockers.

Betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acidity and could decrease the effects of PPIs.
In human research, betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acidity. PPIs are used to decrease stomach acidity. Theoretically, taking betaine hydrochloride along with PPIs might decrease the effects of PPIs
Papain
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, papain might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
