Infant Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Infant Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Infant Probiotic by Mama's Select
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Mama's Select Infant Probiotic is a powder containing 6 active ingredients: four Bifidobacterium species (breve, bifidum, infantis, and longum), Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and fructooligosaccharides (a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria). The product also contains silicon dioxide as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these probiotics in infants is limited. Bifidobacterium bifidum shows possibly effective ratings for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and respiratory tract infections.
The other ingredients have either insufficient evidence or possibly ineffective ratings for the conditions we have data on — including age-related cognitive decline, allergic rhinitis, and several others — so we don't yet know how well they work for many purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The Bifidobacterium species in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy infants, though there's a rare risk of bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream) in critically ill or very premature infants — something to discuss with your pediatrician if your baby has serious illness or immune system issues. Fructooligosaccharides can cause gas, bloating, and abdominal discomfort, especially at higher doses, though clinical studies suggest doses under 10 grams daily are usually mild.
Limited safety data exist for supplement-level doses, so use only with your doctor's guidance. Pregnancy and lactation data are on file only for Bifidobacterium bifidum, which is rated possibly safe during pregnancy; data for the other ingredients during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not on file.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If your infant is prescribed antibiotics, separate the timing of the antibiotic and this probiotic — antibiotics can kill the live organisms before they work. Discuss the best spacing schedule with your pediatrician or pharmacist.
If your baby is critically ill, very premature, or has a weakened immune system, check with your doctor before use, as there is a rare risk of infection.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is designed for infants and contains well-known probiotic strains, though the evidence for their specific benefits in infants is still developing. The main thing to watch is separation from antibiotics — don't give them at the same time.
Because safety data are limited and your baby's health is individual, talk with your pediatrician before starting this probiotic.

Infant Probiotic by Mama's Select Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Mama's Select Infant Probiotic interacts with antibiotic drugs through its Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium longum content.
All three can theoretically have their effectiveness reduced when taken at the same time as antibiotics, because antibiotics may kill the live organisms in the probiotic before they take effect. The interaction is rated Moderate severity.

To protect the probiotic, separate when you give the antibiotic and this product — your doctor or pharmacist can tell you the best timing. We could not check Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium infantis because we hold no data for them.
Additionally, use the medication checker on this page to confirm your infant's exact medications before starting.
