What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Lavender against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic lavender extract in a liquid form. The extract is suspended in vegetable palm glycerin, pharmaceutical grade alcohol, and purified water.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for lavender's effectiveness is mixed depending on what you're using it for. It's possibly effective for dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain).
For cancer-related pain, it's rated possibly ineffective. For alopecia areata (patchy hair loss), pre-procedural anxiety, and cancer-related fatigue, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to know whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lavender is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth in food amounts and in larger therapeutic doses. The most common side effects are breath odor, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn, headache, and nausea.
A small number of people develop allergic skin irritation from topical lavender oil. There's one rare report of breast tissue enlargement in boys using lavender oil topically.
Because safety data in pregnancy and lactation are not well studied, talk with your doctor before using medicinal amounts if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any CNS depressants — sedating medications like sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, or opioid pain relievers. Lavender may increase their drowsy or sedating effects (Moderate severity).
The bottom line

Lavender extract may help with menstrual pain, though evidence for other uses is limited or unclear. If you take sedating medications, check your prescription list before starting — lavender might add to drowsiness.

Lavender by Hawaii Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Hawaii Pharm Lavender extract has documented interactions with one major drug category.
Through its lavender content, it may potentiate both the therapeutic and adverse effects of CNS depressants (sedating medications like benzodiazepines, opioids, and sleep aids) — a Moderate severity interaction. Laboratory research shows lavender has sedative properties, though clinical trials of oral lavender at standard doses haven't reported this effect in practice.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Because lavender can theoretically add to the drowsiness or sedation these medications already cause, you'll want to check your exact medications before starting this product. Altogether, these interactions span 248 individual medications.
Use the interaction checker on this page to search your specific prescriptions. If you take any CNS depressant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before adding lavender to make sure the combination is safe for you.

Cns Depressants
Theoretically, lavender might potentiate the therapeutic effects and adverse effects of CNS depressants.
Laboratory research suggests that lavender has sedative effects. However, clinical studies in patients taking oral lavender oil (Silexan) 160 mg for 10 weeks or taking lavender flower powder 1 gram daily for 2 months have not reported side effects of drowsiness, sedation, or sleepiness. There is still some concern that higher doses or different preparations of lavender might have additive effects with CNS depressant medications.
