Maxima Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Maxima against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Maxima by Pure Essence PureBiotics
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Pure Essence PureBiotics Maxima contains 15 active probiotic ingredients — a mix of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species. These are live cultures meant to support your gut microbiota.
The product also has microcrystalline cellulose, L-leucine, silicon dioxide, and a vegetable capsule as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence varies widely by ingredient and condition. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS); L. acidophilus is also possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and bacterial vaginosis.
B. bifidum is possibly effective for respiratory tract infections. For most other conditions listed — allergic rhinitis, asthma, anxiety, cognitive decline, and others — the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate.
A few ingredients show possibly ineffective ratings for specific uses like age-related cognitive decline or sepsis.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, the safety data are limited, especially for certain populations.
The biggest caution applies if you're very ill, immunocompromised, or critically ill — there have been rare cases of infection (bacteremia or sepsis) from these Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species in such patients, likely from bacteria naturally in your body moving across damaged gut or other barriers. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea can occur but are uncommon.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you have a weakened immune system or are in the hospital.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, separate their timing from this product — antibiotics can kill the live probiotics before they work. We could not check the interaction data for several of the probiotic strains in this formula, so confirm your full medication list with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a multispecies probiotic blend that may help with IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, respiratory infections, or bacterial vaginosis — though evidence is strongest for IBS and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The main thing to watch is spacing doses if you're on an antibiotic.
If you're healthy and not immunocompromised, it's generally well tolerated, but talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist first, especially if you take any medications or have chronic health concerns.

Maxima by Pure Essence PureBiotics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pure Essence PureBiotics Maxima interacts with antibiotic drugs through five of its probiotic ingredients: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum.
The concern is Moderate in severity across all five. Because these probiotics contain live organisms, taking them at the same time as antibiotics might kill enough of those organisms to reduce the probiotic's effectiveness.
The fix is straightforward: space out your antibiotic and probiotic doses.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
We could not check several other ingredients in this product — Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactococcus lactis, Bifidobacterium infantis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Lactobacillus casei — because we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the search tool on this page. If you take an antibiotic, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about timing — they can help you space doses so the probiotic works as intended.
