MegaFlora Kids Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by MegaFood
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking MegaFlora Kids Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
MegaFlora Kids has 14 active ingredients — all live probiotic bacteria strains. The main ones we have interaction data for are Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Streptococcus thermophilus.
The rest are additional Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species. These are 'good bacteria' meant to support digestive health in kids.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, L-leucine, and silicon dioxide.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for most of these individual strains in kids isn't fully established in the data we hold. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum each show 'Possibly Effective' for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Possibly Effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea (L. acidophilus).
Bifidobacterium bifidum is also Possibly Effective for respiratory tract infections. For most other conditions listed — allergies, asthma, cold, anxiety — the evidence across all the strains is marked as Insufficient or not established.
You'd want to discuss what this product might actually do for your child with your doctor or pharmacist.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy children, though some caution notes appear across the ingredient data because these are living organisms and safety in very young, very ill, or immune-compromised kids is less certain. Rare gastrointestinal side effects have been reported with probiotic combinations — things like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea — but they're uncommon.
One clinical trial reported a rash and itching in a small number of participants, though it's unclear whether the probiotics caused them. There's a theoretical concern that live probiotics could cause serious infection (bacteremia or sepsis) in critically ill children or those with weakened immune systems, but these cases are very rare and mostly documented in preterm infants or children with serious underlying conditions.
For a healthy child, this risk is not a typical worry. Pregnancy and lactation data for most ingredients are limited or absent; check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this to a child, especially a newborn or infant.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main medication type to double-check before giving this product. Because the probiotics are live organisms, antibiotics taken at the same time can significantly reduce the supplement's effectiveness.
Your child's doctor or pharmacist can advise you on how to space out the doses if an antibiotic is needed.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
MegaFlora Kids is a multi-strain probiotic meant for kids' digestive support, though the evidence for most of these specific strains in children isn't fully established. The main thing to watch: if your child is on antibiotics, you'll need to time the doses carefully — antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in the supplement.
It's generally well tolerated in healthy kids, but talk with your child's doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if your child is very young, seriously ill, or has a weakened immune system.

MegaFlora Kids Probiotic by MegaFood Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
MegaFood's MegaFlora Kids Probiotic contains several live probiotic bacteria, and through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum content, it carries Moderate-severity interactions with antibiotic drugs.
Because these probiotics are living organisms, antibiotics can kill them and reduce the supplement's effectiveness. The effect is the same across all five: the antibiotics may significantly decrease how well the live organisms work.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Additionally, we could not check Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactococcus lactis, and Bifidobacterium infantis — we hold no interaction data for these ingredients. Streptococcus thermophilus was checked and has no interactions documented in our data.
Although no interactions are documented in our data doesn't mean none exist, so run your exact medications through the search tool on this page before you start. If you're taking an antibiotic, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about timing — you may need to space out the doses.
