The evidence for what this product does is mixed and often thin. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections. For most of the other strains and conditions listed — such as age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, asthma, and common cold — we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether they work.
A few ingredients actually showed no benefit in available studies (Bifidobacterium breve for age-related cognitive decline and sepsis, Lactobacillus acidophilus for atopic disease). Talk with your doctor about whether a probiotic fits your particular reason for considering it.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, caution is needed if you're seriously ill, have a weakened immune system, or are in an intensive care setting — in rare cases, live probiotic bacteria have caused blood-stream infections in those populations.
Mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort have been reported rarely. One person reported a dry cough in a clinical trial.
For pregnancy, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are rated possibly safe, though data are limited; for Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Bifidobacterium breve, and Lactobacillus gasseri, there isn't enough data to rate pregnancy safety. There isn't enough information on file for breastfeeding across these ingredients.

Formula
Aging, stress, poor diet, x-rays, alcohol, and many other frequently encountered substances can deplete the probiotic cultures that inhabit the human gut. Such depletion can lead to gas, bloating, occasional constipation, and poor digestion. To address the unique needs of women, PG 15/50 combines 15 probiotic strains (at least 50 billion active cultures per capsule) with the emphasis on lactobacillus cultures.
