Premier Probiotic Caps Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Premier Probiotic Caps against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Premier Probiotic Caps by Premier Research Labs
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Premier Probiotic Caps contains 17 active ingredients, all live probiotic bacteria and supporting acids. The main probiotics are Lactobacillus species (acidophilus, brevis, fermentum, bulgaricus, casei, helveticus), Bifidobacterium species (breve, longum), and Streptococcus thermophilus, along with Enterococcus species and Enterococcus faecalis.
These are blended with Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, and Acetic Acid to maintain the pH environment these organisms need to survive and work. The formula also includes inactive ingredients—water, safflower oil, beeswax, lecithin, tapioca, glycerin, carrageenan, and caramel—which serve as the capsule matrix and stabilizers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's effectiveness is mixed and depends on what you're hoping it will do. Lactobacillus acidophilus and the fermented culture (which mirrors L. acidophilus data) show possibly effective ratings for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bacillus coagulans is rated possibly effective for constipation and IBS. For most other conditions the formula might address—allergies, asthma, cognitive decline, depression, anxiety—the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate.
Streptococcus thermophilus has insufficient evidence for the conditions tested. The bottom line: if you're taking this for IBS or to prevent diarrhea after antibiotics, there's some reason to think it might help; for other uses, the data aren't established enough yet to say.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus and the probiotic fermented culture are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though you should check with your doctor before starting. The other bacterial strains are generally well tolerated in healthy people but carry limited safety data, so caution is advised—especially if you're very ill or have a weakened immune system.
Citric Acid and Lactic Acid are likely safe during pregnancy and lactation in the amounts found in foods and supplements. Uncommon gastrointestinal side effects have been reported with L. acidophilus when combined with other probiotics—including bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea—and rare cases of rash and itching occurred in a clinical trial, though it's unclear if the probiotic or another factor was responsible.
A serious but rare concern: live probiotic organisms have been isolated in cases of bacterial bloodstream infection, abscess, and heart inflammation, particularly in critically ill patients, preterm infants, or those with central lines or compromised immunity; in healthy people with intact immune systems, such cases are very uncommon.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
The main medication class to watch is antibiotics. Moderate-severity interactions are documented with antibiotic drugs—they may kill the live organisms in this probiotic and reduce its effectiveness.
If you're taking an antibiotic, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about spacing out your doses. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may be worth considering if you have IBS, are at risk for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or want general gut support—and you're otherwise healthy. If you're severely ill, have a weakened immune system, or have central venous lines, talk with your doctor before starting any probiotic.
Before you begin, check with your doctor or pharmacist about any antibiotics or medications you're taking, because antibiotics can interfere with how well this product works.

Premier Probiotic Caps by Premier Research Labs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Premier Probiotic Caps by Premier Research Labs interacts with antibiotic drugs through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bacillus coagulans, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus helveticus, and Bifidobacterium longum content.
All of these are Moderate-severity interactions: antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the probiotic, potentially reducing its effectiveness. The product's live and active microorganisms are designed to survive in your gut, but antibiotics don't discriminate—they may eliminate a significant number of the beneficial bacteria you're taking.
To protect the probiotic's potential benefit, separate doses by at least a few hours or ask your doctor or pharmacist for specific timing guidance.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
We could not check several ingredients in this formula—Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus fermentum, Acetic Acid, Lactobacillus casei, Enterococcus faecalis TH10, and Formic Acid—because we hold no interaction data for them. That doesn't mean they're free of interactions; it means we haven't reviewed them.
Two other ingredients, Citric Acid and Lactic Acid, have no interactions documented in our data, though this is not a guarantee none exist.
Before you start this product, use the medication checker below to look up any antibiotics or other drugs you're currently taking. If you're unsure about timing or safety with your specific medications, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
