Pro-Intensive contains four active probiotic ingredients: three bacterial strains we can identify — Lactobacillus acidophilus (CUL60), Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (CUL34), and Bifidobacterium bifidum (CUL20) — plus Lactobacillus casei (CUL06). These are live microorganisms intended to support your gut flora.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients including microcrystalline cellulose (a plant-based filler) and calcium stearate (a binder).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence here is mixed and modest. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis, though the strength of evidence is limited.
Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis is possibly effective for respiratory tract infections, IBS, and constipation. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections.
For other conditions listed in the research — such as hay fever, Alzheimer disease, and anxiety — the evidence isn't established. We hold no effectiveness data for Lactobacillus casei.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated by most healthy adults and children. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: a small number of people report bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or burping when they first start.
In rare cases, serious infections (bacteremia, sepsis, or other invasive infections) have been reported, though these are thought to occur mainly in people with weakened immune systems or when bacteria escape from their normal location in the gut. If you have a compromised immune system, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are rated possibly safe, but data on Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis and Lactobacillus casei during pregnancy and breastfeeding are not on file — discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.

Lactobacillus acidophilus (CUL60)
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (CUL34 )
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium lactis with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. lactis.
Since B. lactis preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. lactis preparations by at least 2 hours.
