HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic 50 Billion +Prebiotic by DNA Shift
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 11 ingredients total, with 5 live probiotic cultures (Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus gasseri, and Bacillus coagulans under the brand name Lactospore) plus a proprietary blend, several other Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains, and NutraFlora, a prebiotic fiber meant to feed the beneficial bacteria. The probiotics are freeze-dried extracts designed to support gut health, while the prebiotic helps them thrive.
The inactive ingredients are rice flour and cellulose — filler and capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these probiotics is mixed and depends on what you're using them for. Lactobacillus acidophilus shows possibly effective evidence for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. Bacillus coagulans (Lactospore) is possibly effective for constipation and IBS.
For most other conditions listed — from hay fever and asthma to anxiety and athletic performance — the evidence we hold isn't established enough to rate. The prebiotic NutraFlora has insufficient evidence for the conditions studied, including constipation, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, but caution is warranted if you're seriously ill, immune-compromised, have a central line or catheter, or are a preterm infant — rare cases of dangerous blood infections (bacteremia and sepsis) have been reported in those groups. Side effects from the probiotics themselves are uncommon but can include abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, constipation, and occasionally diarrhea or a dry cough.
The prebiotic NutraFlora commonly causes gas and bloating, especially at higher doses, though studies suggest doses under 10 grams daily are generally mild. Bifidobacterium longum and Bifidobacterium bifidum are rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation, and Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly safe in pregnancy — but safety data are limited, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
We don't hold safety data for Lactobacillus gasseri or Bacillus coagulans in pregnancy and lactation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before combining with antibiotic drugs (a Moderate interaction) — the antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the probiotics and make them less effective. Separate your antibiotic and probiotic doses by several hours.
We couldn't check several ingredients for interactions, so use the medication search tool on this page with your complete drug list to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This blend makes sense if you're dealing with IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or constipation and want to try probiotics — a few of these strains have some evidence behind them. If you take antibiotics, just space out the doses.
Be especially careful if you're critically ill, have a weakened immune system, or are a preterm infant — talk to your doctor before starting. Run your medications through the checker here, then confirm the plan with your own doctor or pharmacist.

Probiotic 50 Billion +Prebiotic by DNA Shift Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
DNA Shift's Probiotic 50 Billion +Prebiotic interacts with antibiotics through five of its active probiotic ingredients: Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus gasseri, and Bacillus coagulans (Lactospore).
All five share a Moderate interaction with antibiotic drugs — the live organisms in these probiotics can be killed by antibiotics taken at the same time, which may reduce how well the probiotic works. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The way around this is straightforward: separate when you take them. If you're on antibiotics, take your probiotic at least a few hours before or after your antibiotic dose — your doctor or pharmacist can give you the exact timing that works best.
We couldn't check several other ingredients in this blend: Total Bifido/Lacto Cultures, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, and NutraFlora (a prebiotic) — we hold no data for them. Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of your exact prescriptions have interactions we may have missed.
