PureProbiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking PureProbiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of PureProbiotic by Pure Encapsulations
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
PureProbiotic contains 6 active probiotic ingredients: Lactobacillus rhamnosus LR-32, Lactobacillus plantarum LP-115, Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-14, Bifidobacterium bifidum Bb-06, Bifidobacterium breve Bb-18, and Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bb-04. These are all live bacteria meant to support your gut health.
The product also contains two inactive ingredients — cellulose and water — that serve as fillers and capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these strains is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections. Bifidobacterium breve has insufficient reliable evidence for the conditions studied.
For several other conditions — atopic disease, hay fever, anxiety, cognitive decline, and sepsis — the data either show insufficient evidence or suggest these strains are possibly ineffective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Overall, these probiotic strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea can occur, but they're uncommon.
There's a theoretical concern that because these are live organisms, they could rarely cause infection in people with weakened immune systems or those who are critically ill — cases of bacteremia and sepsis have been reported, though most are rare. If you're immunocompromised or severely ill, check with your doctor before starting.
Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are both rated possibly safe in pregnancy; data for Bifidobacterium breve in pregnancy and lactation are not on file.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main concern — they can reduce how well these probiotics work. Since this product contains live organisms, antibiotics taken at the same time may kill a significant number of them.
Talk to your pharmacist about spacing them at least several hours apart. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with certain digestive issues like irritable bowel syndrome and antibiotic-associated diarrhea, though the evidence is strongest for Lactobacillus acidophilus. The main thing to watch for is timing with antibiotics — you'll need to space them apart so the antibiotics don't kill the live bacteria in this product.
If you have a weakened immune system or are critically ill, talk to your doctor before starting. Check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before you begin.

PureProbiotic by Pure Encapsulations Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pure Encapsulations PureProbiotic interacts with antibiotic drugs through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium breve content.
The interaction is Moderate in severity: antibiotics may kill the live organisms in these probiotic strains, reducing their effectiveness. Since these preparations contain active microorganisms, taking them together with antibiotics can significantly decrease how well the probiotics work.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The main concern is timing. You'll want to separate when you take antibiotics from when you take this product — don't take them at the same time.
Space them out, and ask your doctor or pharmacist how many hours apart they should be, since it depends on the specific antibiotic.
We couldn't check three other ingredients in this product for interactions: Lactobacillus rhamnosus LR-32, Lactobacillus plantarum LP-115, and Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bb-04. That doesn't mean they don't interact — we simply hold no data for them.
Run your complete medication list through the interaction checker on this page before you start.
