Restore 40+ Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Restore 40+ against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Restore 40+ contains 15 active probiotic strains, a mix of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species designed to support your gut. Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria and the ones here — including Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum, among others — work by colonizing your digestive tract.
The product also contains inactive ingredients like microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, and gellan gum, which are fillers and binders that help form and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence on these probiotics is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori infection, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. For most other conditions in our data — including allergic rhinitis (hay fever), anxiety, asthma, and age-related cognitive decline — the evidence is insufficient to rate these strains.
Talk with your doctor about whether this product matches what you're hoping it will do.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, the safety data are limited, and they do carry a theoretical risk: because they're live organisms, there's some concern they could cause infection in certain patients, especially those who are critically ill or have weakened immune systems.
Rare cases of bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream) and related serious infections have been reported, mostly in preterm infants or very ill patients. Mild gastrointestinal side effects — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea — are uncommon but have been reported.
One small number of trial participants reported rash or itching, though it's unclear whether the probiotics caused it. We have no pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for most of these strains; Bifidobacterium longum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy, but talk with your doctor before using this product if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, talk to your pharmacist before starting this product — five of the ingredients may lose their effectiveness if taken at the same time as antibiotics. You'll want to space them apart by a few hours.
No other medication types show documented interactions with the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Restore 40+ is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with IBS and antibiotic-associated diarrhea, though evidence is strongest for just a couple of the strains. The main thing to watch is timing with antibiotics — separate them by a few hours.
If you're very ill, immunocompromised, or pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor first.

Restore 40+ by Pure Essence PureBiotics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Restore 40+ by Pure Essence PureBiotics contains 15 probiotic strains, and several of them interact with antibiotic drugs.
The most serious documented interaction is Moderate severity: five of the checked ingredients — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum — may have their effectiveness reduced if you take them at the same time as antibiotics, because the antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the product.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although these probiotics share the same interaction pattern with one drug type, the effect is consistent across all five: antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms before they can do their job. The solution is straightforward — separate when you take them.
Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you the right timing.
We could not check seven of the ingredients in this blend — Lactococcus lactis, Bifidobacterium infantis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus casei, and Bifidobacterium animalis lactis — because we hold no data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the interaction checker on this page.
