What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Triple Mushroom Complex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 3 active ingredients: extracts of reishi, shiitake, and maitake mushrooms. Each is a concentrated form of the whole fungus, chosen for their traditional use in herbal medicine.
The capsules also contain inactive ingredients — maltodextrin, gelatin, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, and silica — which serve as binders and fillers to hold the formula together.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for these mushroom extracts is limited. Reishi has been studied for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia) and shows no real benefit; evidence for altitude sickness, Alzheimer's disease, and athletic performance is too thin to rate.
Shiitake shows no clear benefit for dental plaque and has insufficient evidence for chemotherapy-related side effects and cancer. Maitake similarly lacks strong evidence for hay fever, cancer-related anemia or diarrhea, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
These ingredients are used in herbal practice, but the clinical proof for the conditions studied is not yet established.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Reishi is generally well tolerated over the short term, though we don't have good long-term safety data. The most common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset; rarely, insomnia and headache occur.
Respiratory allergy to reishi spores — sore throat and runny nose — has been reported. Shiitake is generally well tolerated when cooked and eaten as food, but concentrated supplements carry more caution.
Common effects include abdominal discomfort, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Raw shiitake can rarely cause shiitake dermatitis (a skin eruption with whiplash-like marks and sometimes systemic symptoms), and large pieces pose a choking risk.
Contact with or inhalation of shiitake spores can trigger allergies, asthma, or in mushroom workers, serious lung inflammation. Maitake is generally well tolerated; side effects are mainly gastrointestinal (diarrhea, stomach pain).
Rarely, allergic reactions like rash and itching have occurred. Pregnancy and breastfeeding data are insufficient for all three — safety data isn't on file — so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners (especially warfarin), blood pressure medications, diabetes medications, or drugs broken down by your liver's CYP2D6 enzyme (such as certain antidepressants or beta-blockers). Also flag it if you take immunosuppressive medications.
These are Moderate-severity interactions — meaning the risk is real but not necessarily unavoidable — but your healthcare provider needs to know about them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This triple mushroom blend is used in herbal medicine, but clinical evidence for its effectiveness on any specific condition is either insufficient or shows no real benefit. The main concern is interaction with blood thinners, blood pressure meds, blood sugar drugs, and certain liver-metabolized medications — so it's not a grab-and-go product for everyone.
If you take any prescription medication, check it against this product with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.

Triple Mushroom Complex by Swanson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Swanson's Triple Mushroom Complex — which contains reishi, shiitake, and maitake mushroom extracts — does interact with several medication types.
The most serious concern involves reishi and maitake mushroom with blood thinners (anticoagulants): reishi at higher doses may increase bleeding risk, and maitake has limited evidence of strengthening warfarin's blood-thinning effects, which could raise your INR dangerously. Both reishi and maitake can lower blood pressure (antihypertensive drugs) and blood sugar (antidiabetes drugs), so combining them with those medications may heighten the drop in either.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Shiitake mushroom may interfere with drugs broken down by your liver's CYP2D6 enzyme — a large class that includes certain antidepressants, beta-blockers, and antiarrhythmics — potentially making those medications less effective. Shiitake may also theoretically blunt the effects of immunosuppressive medications if you're on those after a transplant or for an autoimmune condition.
Reishi is generally well tolerated short-term, though long-term safety isn't well studied. Shiitake and maitake are generally well tolerated as foods, but concentrated supplement forms carry more caution.
Altogether, these interactions span 654 individual medications. Before you start this product, search your exact medications in the tool on this page or run them by your doctor or pharmacist.

For each ingredient in Triple Mushroom Complex with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Reishi Mushroom extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Shiitake Mushroom extract
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, shiitake mushroom might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro studies suggest that the shiitake mushroom extract AHCC might induce the CYP2D6 enzyme. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, taking shiitake mushroom might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy.
In vitro evidence suggests that shiitake mushroom extracts stimulate immune function.
Maitake Mushroom extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
