Ultra Prostate Formula Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Ultra Prostate Formula against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Ultra Prostate Formula by Life Extension
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Ultra Prostate Formula contains 12 active ingredients focused on prostate and urinary health. The main ones are pygeum extract (an African tree bark used for prostate function), saw palmetto CO2 extract (a berry concentrate for the prostate), beta-sitosterol (a plant compound), pumpkin seed oil, lycopene (a red pigment from tomatoes), boron (a mineral), and several plant extracts including frankincense and flower pollen.
The formula also includes a proprietary blend of enterolactone precursors and nettle extracts. The softgel capsule itself contains gelatin, sunflower oil, glycerin, and other inactive ingredients like beeswax and carob color to hold everything together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Pygeum is likely effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), the condition where the prostate gland enlarges. Beta-sitosterol is also likely effective for BPH, and possibly effective for high cholesterol and heart disease.
Saw palmetto, however, is rated possibly ineffective for BPH despite its common use. Pumpkin seed oil is rated possibly effective for BPH.
Lycopene is possibly effective for prostate cancer prevention. For the other ingredients in the formula — boron, stinging nettle, frankincense, and flower pollen — the evidence we hold is either insufficient to rate or shows they may be ineffective for these conditions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The ingredients that have been checked are generally well tolerated at typical doses. Pygeum and saw palmetto are mild and reversible in their side effects, which can include nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, and headache — though these were similar to placebo in studies.
Beta-sitosterol may cause gas, diarrhea, constipation, or nausea. Lycopene supplements can cause gastrointestinal upset like diarrhea and nausea.
Boron is safe in low doses but at high doses can be toxic, so stay within the tolerable upper limit of 20 mg daily. Pumpkin oil is generally safe and well tolerated.
Because pygeum, saw palmetto, and beta-sitosterol are not established as safe in pregnancy, they should be avoided if you're pregnant or nursing. Boron supplements and lycopene supplements are not well studied in pregnancy and breastfeeding either — talk with your doctor before using this product if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel) — lycopene and saw palmetto may increase bleeding risk. If you take estrogens or birth control pills, saw palmetto may reduce their effectiveness.
If you take lithium for mood, pumpkin oil may raise lithium levels. These are the main medication types documented to interact with this product's ingredients.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This formula is aimed at men with prostate concerns, particularly benign enlargement. If you take blood thinners, estrogens, birth control, or lithium, talk with your pharmacist before adding this product — it may affect how those medications work.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid it. For anyone else, run your medications through the tool on this page.

Ultra Prostate Formula by Life Extension Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Ultra Prostate Formula by Life Extension contains several ingredients with documented interactions.
The most serious is lycopene, which carries a Moderate interaction with blood thinners (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs) — in lab studies it has shown antiplatelet effects that could theoretically increase bleeding risk if combined with these medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Saw palmetto also has Moderate interactions with three drug categories: estrogens and birth control pills (where it may reduce their effectiveness due to antiestrogenic effects), and blood thinners (where it may prolong bleeding time). Pumpkin oil carries a Moderate interaction with lithium, the mood stabilizer — it may reduce how your kidneys clear lithium, raising its levels and potentially requiring a dose adjustment.
Algether, these interactions span 175 individual medications. Several ingredients in this formula — phospholipids, stinging and dwarf nettle extracts, flax lignan extract, Norwegian spruce extract, frankincense extract, and flower pollen extract — we could not check because we hold no safety data for them.

ApresFlex Indian Frankincense (Boswellia serrata) extract
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.
Flax Lignan (seed) extract
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, antibiotics might interfere with the metabolism of flaxseed constituents, which could potentially alter the effects of flaxseed.
Some potential benefits of flaxseed are thought to be due to its lignan content. Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), a major lignan precursor, is found in high concentrations in flaxseed. SDG is converted by bacteria in the colon to the lignans enterolactone and enterodiol. Antibiotics alter the flora of the colon, which could theoretically alter the metabolism of flaxseed.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, using flaxseed in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
Some clinical evidence suggests that the oil contained in flaxseed can decrease platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, flaxseed might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk for hypoglycemia.
Some clinical research suggests that flaxseed can lower blood glucose levels.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, flaxseed might have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical research shows that daily flaxseed consumption, especially for longer than 12 weeks, modestly reduces blood pressure.
Estrogens
Theoretically, taking flaxseed might decrease the effects of estrogens.
Flaxseed contains lignans with mild estrogenic and possible antiestrogenic effects. The lignans seem to compete with circulating endogenous estrogen and might reduce estrogen binding to estrogen receptors, resulting in an anti-estrogen effect. It is unclear if this effect transfers to exogenously administered estrogens.
Saw Palmetto CO2 extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Saw palmetto might increase the risk of bleeding with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Saw palmetto is reported to prolong bleeding time. Theoretically, it might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Contraceptive Drugs
Saw palmetto might reduce the effectiveness of contraceptive drugs.
Saw palmetto might have antiestrogenic effects. Theoretically, it might interfere with contraceptive drugs taken concomitantly.
Estrogens
Saw palmetto might reduce the effectiveness of estrogens.
Saw palmetto might have antiestrogenic effects. Theoretically, it might interfere with estrogens taken concomitantly.
Lycopene
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking lycopene with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro research shows that lycopene has antiplatelet effects.
Pumpkin Oil
Lithium
Pumpkin might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Pumpkin is thought to have diuretic properties. Theoretically, this might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
