Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: white mulberry leaf powder from Morus alba. White mulberry leaf has been studied for its effects on blood sugar and cholesterol, though the evidence remains limited.

The capsule itself is a vegetable capsule, which is the inactive container.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient White Mulberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that white mulberry leaf is effective for any condition — including diabetes, high cholesterol, hair loss, weak bones, or the common cold. All the uses we have data for are rated insufficient reliable evidence, meaning the research so far hasn't been strong enough to say whether it works.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated when taken orally. The most common side effects are temporary bloating, constipation, loose stools, and gas — and in one clinical study, these effects were reported in a portion of participants but tended to ease as treatment continued.

The product carries a caution that while it's safe as a food, concentrated supplements like this one are less studied, especially because they can lower blood sugar. There isn't enough safety data to recommend it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, so if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning either, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antidiabetes drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — white mulberry can lower blood sugar and may increase the risk of going too low when combined with your medication. Also check any drugs that use the OCT2 kidney transporter (metformin is a common one), as white mulberry may slow how your body clears them.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

White Mulberry by Genesis Today: Common Questions

Does White Mulberry by Genesis Today interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, White Mulberry has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
White Mulberry contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What side effects does white mulberry cause?
The most common are bloating, constipation, loose stools, and gas. In one clinical study, about half the participants reported bloating or gas, a quarter had loose stools, and a fifth had constipation — but these side effects tended to fade over time.
Is white mulberry safe if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data to recommend medicinal amounts during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you're in either situation, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.
Does white mulberry actually lower blood sugar?
Clinical research does show that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels, which is why it interacts with diabetes medications. However, we don't yet have strong enough evidence to say it's effective for treating diabetes itself.
Can I take this if I'm on metformin?
You shouldn't without checking first. Animal research shows white mulberry may slow how your kidneys clear metformin, which could increase the drug's effects and side effects. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
What is white mulberry leaf used for?
It's been studied for diabetes, high cholesterol, hair loss, weak bones, and the common cold, but we don't have reliable evidence that it works for any of these yet.
