What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic wild cherry (Prunus serotina) dried bark liquid extract. Wild cherry bark has a long history in traditional herbal use, particularly for respiratory comfort.
The liquid extract form means the active compounds have been concentrated from the dried bark using a liquid menstruum (a solvent), which is listed as the only other ingredient.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We don't have effectiveness ratings on file for wild cherry, so the evidence supporting its use isn't established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Wild cherry is generally considered safe in the small amounts found in over-the-counter cough products, but there's an important catch: the plant contains cyanide-forming compounds, and large amounts can be toxic. A case report describes severe poisoning in someone who consumed about 300 grams of wild cherries steeped in alcohol — symptoms included headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion, difficulty breathing, and eventually coma.
Because of the cyanide risk and insufficient safety data, the safety information on file advises against use while breastfeeding. No safety data is available for pregnancy either.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check any medications you're taking that are broken down by the liver enzyme CYP3A4, especially cholesterol-lowering drugs and antifungal medications — this is a Moderate interaction. Use the medication checker below to verify your specific drugs before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Wild Cherry is generally recognized as safe at low doses in commercial cough formulas, but this liquid extract carries a cyanide risk if taken in large amounts. If you're taking medications metabolized by CYP3A4 — especially cholesterol or antifungal drugs — check with your pharmacist first.
Avoid this product while breastfeeding, and talk to your doctor if you're pregnant.

Wild Cherry by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Wild Cherry by Herbal Terra contains one active ingredient — certified organic wild cherry dried bark liquid extract — that interacts with a significant number of medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The main concern is with drugs metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP3A4 (a system that breaks down many common medications). In the lab, wild cherry appears to slow this enzyme down, which could theoretically raise levels of certain drugs in your bloodstream.
However, this interaction hasn't actually been reported in people yet — it's based on test-tube research. Still, the possibility is rated Moderate, meaning it's worth taking seriously.
Although we don't have a full list of which specific CYP3A4 drugs are affected, examples include cholesterol medications like lovastatin and antifungal medications like ketoconazole and itraconazole. Altogether, these interactions span 633 individual medications.
Before you start this product, use the medication checker on this page to look up any prescription or over-the-counter drugs you're taking.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro research suggests that wild cherry can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Theoretically, wild cherry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, so far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and others.
