Here's the gist with clonidine (Catapres) and agmatine. Clonidine already lowers your blood pressure and slows your heart rate by working on receptors in your brain. Interestingly, agmatine seems to act on some of the same receptor systems, so in theory the two could push in the same direction and lower your blood pressure a bit too much.

I want to be straight with you: this concern comes mostly from animal studies, not solid human research, so it's more of a heads-up than a real alarm. If you ever feel dizzy, lightheaded, unusually tired, or like your heartbeat is slow, those would be the signs to watch for. Before pairing these, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Clonidine Used For?

Brand name: Catapres

Clonidine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Several products — including Clonidine Hydrochloride tablets, Javadin oral solution, Nexiclon XR extended-release tablets, and Catapres-TTS skin patches — are approved for this use, either alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Extended-release formulations — including Onyda XR oral suspension and clonidine hydrochloride extended-release tablets (such as Kapvay) — are approved to treat ADHD in children and teenagers ages 6 to 17, either on their own or alongside stimulant medications. Separately, clonidine injection products (Duraclon and others) are used alongside opioid pain medicines to treat severe cancer pain that opioids alone cannot control adequately.
