Here's the idea behind this one. Cisplatin is a powerful chemotherapy drug, and part of how it's used to fight cancer means your immune system often takes a hit too. Alfalfa, on the other hand, contains compounds that may gently stimulate the immune system. On paper, those two could pull in opposite directions, which is why it landed on the watch list.

I'll be honest with you though, this is a theoretical concern. It comes from lab studies and a few case reports, not from strong evidence in people taking cisplatin. We don't have proof that alfalfa weakens cisplatin's cancer-fighting effect. Still, while you're going through chemo your body is fragile, so I'd skip concentrated alfalfa supplements and run it by your oncology team or pharmacist first before adding anything.

What Is Cisplatin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Platinol-AQ

Cisplatin Injection is used to treat three types of cancer. For metastatic testicular tumors and metastatic ovarian tumors, it is used as part of combination chemotherapy — alongside other approved cancer medicines — in patients who have already had surgery and/or radiation therapy. For metastatic ovarian tumors, it can also be used alone as a second-line treatment when standard chemotherapy has stopped working and cisplatin has not been tried before.

For advanced bladder cancer (specifically transitional cell bladder cancer) that can no longer be treated with surgery or radiation, Cisplatin Injection is used as a single agent.
