Here's the gist with your birth control pill (the ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel combo in Microgynon and Logynon). Alfalfa contains plant compounds called phytoestrogens, like coumestrol, that act weakly like the body's own estrogen. The concern on file is theoretical: these plant estrogens could, in principle, nudge the hormone balance your pill relies on and slightly interfere with how well it works.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical worry, based on alfalfa's chemistry rather than real cases of pregnancy or problems. Food amounts of alfalfa sprouts are unlikely to matter much, but concentrated supplements are a bigger unknown. If you're counting on this pill to prevent pregnancy, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding an alfalfa supplement.

Your pill, Microgynon or Logynon, combines an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) with a progestin (levonorgestrel) to prevent pregnancy. Alfalfa supplements contain plant compounds called phytoestrogens, like coumestrol, that can act weakly like estrogen in the body. On paper, that raises a question about whether they could nudge the hormone balance your pill is carefully set up to maintain.

Here's the honest part: this concern is theoretical, based on how alfalfa behaves in the lab, not on real cases of people having problems.
