These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Alfalfa interacts with whole categories of medication. Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Alfalfa in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol
Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol falls under CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS — the group Alfalfa interacts with.
Alfalfa contains coumestrol, a phytoestrogen, and isoflavonoids, which have estrogenic effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Annovera is a vaginal ring that releases two hormones, segesterone and ethinyl estradiol, to prevent pregnancy. The concern here is mostly theoretical. Alfalfa contains plant compounds called phytoestrogens (like coumestrol) that act weakly like estrogen in the body. In the lab this raises a question of whether they might nudge how your contraceptive hormones work, but we don't have real human studies showing alfalfa actually makes the ring less effective.
The amount of alfalfa in a normal meal or sprouts is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses are the bigger unknown. Since reliable birth control is important, I'd just run it past your pharmacist or doctor before adding an alfalfa supplement, rather than stopping anything on your own.

ESTROGENS
2 of 2Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol also falls under ESTROGENS.
Alfalfa contains coumestrol, a phytoestrogen, and isoflavonoids, which have estrogenic effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Annovera is a vaginal ring that delivers two hormones, segesterone acetate (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen), to prevent pregnancy. Alfalfa supplements contain plant-based estrogen-like compounds called coumestrol and isoflavones. The concern here is purely theoretical: in the lab these compounds can weakly mimic estrogen, so in concept they might nudge the hormonal balance your ring is carefully providing.
To be clear, there is no solid human evidence that alfalfa weakens your birth control or makes side effects worse, and the amounts you'd get in food or salad are very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses are the bigger question mark. Since reliable pregnancy prevention is the whole point, I'd just run any alfalfa supplement past your pharmacist or doctor first rather than guessing.
