Here's the gist for Rozlytrek (entrectinib): your body clears this cancer medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that American elder may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, entrectinib could build up in your blood and push side effects higher, things like dizziness, fatigue, swelling, constipation, changes in taste, or rarely heart rhythm changes.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it's theoretical at this point. Still, entrectinib is a serious oncology drug, so don't add elderberry products without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist. Occasional culinary amounts of cooked berries are far less of a worry than concentrated extracts.

American elder is a North American plant whose cooked, ripe berries and flowers are used mainly for colds, flu, and general immune support. The science behind these uses is limited and most studies focus on the closely related European black elder (Sambucus nigra), so benefits are uncertain. Only properly prepared berries and flowers should be used, since raw berries, leaves, bark, and seeds can cause poisoning.

What Is Entrectinib Used For?

Brand name: Rozlytrek

Rozlytrek (entrectinib) is used to treat adult patients with ROS1-positive metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), as confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is also approved for adult and pediatric patients older than 1 month of age who have solid tumors — any cancer type — that carry an NTRK gene fusion detected by an FDA-approved test, provided the tumor has no known acquired resistance mutation, is metastatic or cannot be surgically removed without severe harm, and has progressed after prior treatment or has no satisfactory alternative therapy.

The NTRK gene fusion approval in solid tumors was granted under accelerated approval, meaning it is based on tumor response rates. Continued approval may depend on results from confirmatory clinical trials.
