Here's the gist with entrectinib (Rozlytrek) and green tea. This cancer medicine can be hard on your liver on its own, so doctors often check liver blood tests while you take it. Concentrated green tea extract supplements have also been tied to rare cases of liver trouble. Put the two together and the worry is simply that the liver stress could add up.

To be clear, this is a theoretical, low-likelihood concern backed mostly by scattered case reports, so don't panic. Drinking green tea as a normal beverage is unlikely to be the issue; high-dose extract capsules are. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and check with your oncologist or pharmacist before using any green tea supplement.

Entrectinib also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Green tea is unlikely to produce clinically significant changes in the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that green tea can inhibit intestinal CYP3A and induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzymes. However, this effect is unlikely to be clinically significant, as green tea does not appear to affect CYP3A4 activity in humans.

Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down entrectinib (Rozlytrek). Green tea has shown some ability to nudge this enzyme in lab and animal studies, but in actual people it doesn't seem to meaningfully change how CYP3A4 works. So drinking green tea is very unlikely to throw off your entrectinib levels in either direction.

In theory, if anything slowed your clearance of this drug, you could see more of its typical side effects like dizziness, fatigue, swelling, or changes in heart rhythm. But the evidence here is weak, and normal tea amounts shouldn't be a problem. Because entrectinib is a serious cancer medicine, do check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding concentrated green tea extract pills.

About Entrectinib

What Is Entrectinib Used For?

Brand name: Rozlytrek

Rozlytrek (entrectinib) is used to treat adult patients with ROS1-positive metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), as confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is also approved for adult and pediatric patients older than 1 month of age who have solid tumors — any cancer type — that carry an NTRK gene fusion detected by an FDA-approved test, provided the tumor has no known acquired resistance mutation, is metastatic or cannot be surgically removed without severe harm, and has progressed after prior treatment or has no satisfactory alternative therapy.

The NTRK gene fusion approval in solid tumors was granted under accelerated approval, meaning it is based on tumor response rates. Continued approval may depend on results from confirmatory clinical trials.
