Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Pseudoephedrine
Pseudoephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Green Tea interacts with.
Green tea contains caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: green tea naturally contains caffeine, and so does the average cup add a mild stimulant kick of its own. Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) is already a stimulant-type decongestant, so pairing the two can stack those effects. You might notice things like a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, feeling wired, or a slight bump in blood pressure.
This is largely a theoretical concern based on expert opinion, not strong studies, so a cup or two of regular green tea alongside Sudafed isn't likely to cause trouble for most healthy folks. Be more cautious with concentrated green tea extracts or several caffeinated drinks a day, and especially if you have high blood pressure or a heart condition. When in doubt, check with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Green Tea
What is Green Tea?
- Antioxidant support
- Weight loss
- Heart health
- Mental alertness
- Cancer risk reduction
Green tea is a popular beverage rich in antioxidants called catechins, and drinking it in normal amounts is considered safe for most people. Concentrated green tea extracts are a different story—they may help modestly with weight or heart health for some, but high doses have been linked to rare liver problems. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking green tea supplements, especially if you have liver concerns or are pregnant.
About Pseudoephedrine
What Is Pseudoephedrine Used For?
Brand names: Pseudoval Plus, Sudafed, Mini Pseudo, Robidrine, Sudafed 12 Hour
Pseudoephedrine temporarily relieves nasal congestion and sinus pressure caused by the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. Most products also relieve sinus congestion and pressure, and help restore easier breathing through the nose.
Children's Sudafed oral solution additionally promotes nasal and/or sinus drainage. The Nasal Decongestant tablet specifically notes that it temporarily restores freer breathing through the nose.
