Prednisolone falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Green Tea interacts with.

Green tea might increase the levels and adverse effects of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrates.
In vitro research and case reports suggest that green tea inhibits drug efflux by P-gp, potentially increasing serum levels of P-gp substrates. Case reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) adverse drug reaction database describe increased toxicity in patients taking green tea and certain P-gp substrates.

Here's the idea with green tea and prednisolone: your body uses a kind of cellular pump called P-glycoprotein (P-gp) to move certain medicines around and help clear them out. Green tea may slow that pump down a bit, which in theory could let a little more prednisolone hang around in your system. If levels nudged up, you might notice more of this steroid's usual effects, like trouble sleeping, jitteriness, a bigger appetite, fluid retention, or higher blood sugar.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. The evidence here is anecdotal, mostly lab studies and scattered case reports, not strong proof. A normal cup or two of green tea is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated green tea extract pills are the bigger question mark. If you take those regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Prednisolone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Green tea is unlikely to produce clinically significant changes in the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that green tea can inhibit intestinal CYP3A and induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzymes. However, this effect is unlikely to be clinically significant, as green tea does not appear to affect CYP3A4 activity in humans.

Good news here: when it comes to pairing green tea with prednisolone, there's very little to worry about. Prednisolone is partly processed by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab and animal studies suggest green tea could nudge this enzyme in either direction. But here's the key point: in actual human studies, green tea hasn't shown any meaningful effect on this enzyme's activity.

So in real life, your regular cups of green tea aren't likely to make prednisolone stronger or weaker, or change side effects like fluid retention, mood changes, or trouble sleeping. This is weak, theoretical evidence only. If you're using concentrated green tea extract pills (a much higher dose), it's still worth mentioning to your pharmacist, mainly because high-dose extracts can rarely stress the liver.

Prednisolone is prescribed for many different conditions where inflammation or an overactive immune system is causing harm. These range from severe allergic reactions and asthma to certain skin diseases, blood disorders, eye problems, and some cancers.

It is also used to support the body when the adrenal glands aren't making enough of their own steroids, and to manage flares of conditions like ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition causing protein loss in the urine).
