Hydroxyzine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Green Tea interacts with.

Green tea is unlikely to produce clinically significant changes in the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that green tea can inhibit intestinal CYP3A and induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzymes. However, this effect is unlikely to be clinically significant, as green tea does not appear to affect CYP3A4 activity in humans.

Here's the short version: drinking green tea alongside hydroxyzine is very unlikely to cause you any trouble. Hydroxyzine is partly processed by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies hint that green tea might nudge that enzyme one way or the other. But in actual people, green tea doesn't seem to meaningfully change how this enzyme works, so your hydroxyzine should keep doing its usual job.

If anything did shift, you'd be watching for more of hydroxyzine's normal effects, mainly drowsiness, dry mouth, or feeling a bit foggy. The evidence here is weak (mostly test-tube and animal data), so I wouldn't lose sleep over a cup or two of tea. If you take strong green tea extract supplements, that's worth mentioning to your pharmacist.

About Hydroxyzine

What Is Hydroxyzine Used For?

Brand names: Atarax, Vistaril, Ucerax

Hydroxyzine is used to relieve anxiety and tension related to psychoneurosis (anxiety-based mental health conditions) and as a supportive treatment when anxiety is part of another medical condition. Oral forms — including tablets, capsules, and oral solution — are used for anxiety relief and to manage itching (pruritus) caused by allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria (hives), atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and histamine-driven itch. Oral forms are also used as a sedative before and after surgery or general anesthesia.

Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride intramuscular injection is used specifically when a shot is needed — for example, in acute psychiatric or emotional emergencies, acute alcohol withdrawal with anxiety symptoms or delirium tremens, control of nausea and vomiting (except during pregnancy), and as pre- and post-operative or pre- and post-partum supportive medication to reduce narcotic requirements and control nausea.
