Here's the thing to keep in mind. Gliclazide works by pushing your pancreas to release more insulin, which lowers your blood sugar. The Atkins diet cuts way back on carbs, which on its own already lowers blood sugar. Stack the two together and the effect can add up, so your numbers may drop lower than you expect. That raises the chance of a low blood sugar episode (hypoglycemia), with signs like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or feeling suddenly hungry or weak.

This is rated minor and is based mostly on expert opinion, not strong studies, so it's not a reason to panic. But it's real enough to watch. If you're starting Atkins while on gliclazide, check your blood sugar more often and let your doctor or pharmacist know. Your dose may need adjusting, but please don't change it on your own.
