Here's the simple version: when you cut carbs way down on an Atkins-style plan, your blood sugar naturally tends to run lower. If you're also injecting insulin (or inhaling it, like Afrezza), the two can stack on top of each other and push your sugar down too far. That's hypoglycemia, and with insulin it can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or in serious cases passing out.

This is rated minor and is mostly based on expert reasoning, not strong studies, so don't panic. But it's a real and practical concern, since the dose of insulin you needed on a higher-carb diet may simply be too much once you're eating very few carbs. Please don't change your insulin on your own. Check your blood sugar more often and talk with your doctor or pharmacist so they can adjust your dose safely.

Novolin (human insulin injection) is used to improve glycemic control — meaning blood sugar management — in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.
