Cariprazine Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Atractylodes interacts with.

Theoretically, atractylodes might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In animals, atractylodes administered at high doses has been shown to inhibit CYP3A1 activity, which is a homolog to the human CYP3A4 enzyme. This effect has not been shown in humans.

Here's the short version on pairing atractylodes with Vraylar (cariprazine). Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear cariprazine. In animal studies using high doses, atractylodes appeared to slow down a similar enzyme. If that were to happen in people, cariprazine could build up a bit, which might mean more of its usual effects, like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or trouble with movement.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical. It has only been seen in lab and animal work, never confirmed in humans, and it's rated a minor interaction. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since cariprazine is a long-acting medication, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding the supplement.

What Is Cariprazine Used For?

Brand name: Vraylar

Vraylar (cariprazine) is approved to treat schizophrenia in adults and teens 13 and older, and to treat acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder in adults and children 10 and older. In adults, it is also approved for depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression).

Additionally, Vraylar is approved as an add-on therapy alongside antidepressants for adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) who need extra help beyond their current antidepressant alone.
