Babassu + Phenelzine Sulfate
Phenelzine Sulfate brand name: Nardil.
We found no known interaction between Babassu and Phenelzine Sulfate in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Babassu and Phenelzine Sulfate
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Phenelzine Sulfate and Babassu in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Phenelzine Sulfate
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Phenelzine Sulfate is filed under 6 classifications — including monoamine oxidase inhibitors (maois), antidepressant drugs, serotonergic drugs. Babassu has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) and antithyroid drugs (moderate) — and none of Phenelzine Sulfate’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

The most serious there right now: 1,4-butanediol (major), Activated Charcoal (major), Beer (major), Bitter Orange (major) and Brewer's Yeast (major).
By severity: 18 major · 111 moderate · 15 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Phenelzine Sulfate page
“Few medications demand as much dietary and supplement care as phenelzine sulfate (Nardil), an older MAOI antidepressant, and this list backs that up, with 18 of its 144 recorded interactions rated major. The two dominant themes are sedation and blood pressure.”

#473 of 2,830 medications looked up here in the last 7 days
Position among everything looked up on this site, not a measure of how commonly either one is used or how important it is. A supplement can climb this list because of a news story. It counts every request to the page, automated ones included, and nothing here identifies anyone.

- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Babassu
What is Babassu?
- Skin and hair care
- Inflammation
- Wound healing
- Digestive complaints
- General wellness
Babassu comes from a Brazilian palm tree, and its oil and mesocarp flour are used in foods, cosmetics, and traditional remedies. Early lab and animal studies suggest possible anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects, but there is very little human research to confirm any health benefit. If you want to try it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Attalea speciosa · Arecaceae · Kernel oil and the dried, powdered mesocarp (inner husk) · Oil, mesocarp flour/powder, capsules, topical creams and soaps
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Babassu is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Babassu record says about it on its own.

About Phenelzine
What Is Phenelzine Used For?
Brand name: Nardil
Phenelzine treats depression in people described as “atypical,” “nonendogenous,” or “neurotic.” These patients often have a mix of anxiety and depression, along with phobic or hypochondriacal features (intense fears or excessive worry about health).
It is rarely the first antidepressant tried. It is more suitable for people who did not respond to the drugs more commonly used. Evidence is less conclusive for severe depression with endogenous features. These uses apply to Phenelzine Sulfate tablets and Nardil tablets.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Phenelzine Sulfate

Phenelzine Sulfate Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Phenelzine Sulfate as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Babassu — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
