Here's the simple version: bergamot supplements may have a mild blood sugar lowering effect of their own. Since dapagliflozin (Farxiga) is already working to bring your sugar down, stacking the two together could, in theory, push your levels a little lower than expected. That might show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling lightheaded, the usual signs of low blood sugar.

I want to be honest about how solid this is: it's theoretical, based mostly on animal studies of bergamot juice, not strong human research. On its own dapagliflozin rarely causes true hypoglycemia, so the bigger concern is if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea. The safe move is to keep an eye on your readings and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a bergamot supplement.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
