Here's the gist: Levemir (insulin detemir) is your long-acting background insulin, the kind that gently lowers blood sugar through the day and night. Bergamot supplements may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of their own. Stack the two together and, in theory, your sugar could drop a little lower than expected. That can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded.

I'll be honest with you, this concern comes mostly from animal studies, so it's more of a 'keep an eye out' than a red alert. Bergamot in a cup of Earl Grey tea won't do much, but concentrated capsules are a different story. If you'd like to try one, check your sugars more often at first and loop in your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
