Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorothiazide, Methyldopa
Chlorothiazide, Methyldopa falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Beta-glucans interacts with.
Clinical research shows that taking beta-glucans may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure in some hypertensive individuals.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Aldoclor combines two blood pressure medicines: chlorothiazide, a water pill, and methyldopa, which relaxes blood vessels. Here's the gist of this interaction: oat and barley beta-glucans can themselves nudge blood pressure down a little in some people. Stack that gentle effect on top of a medicine already lowering your pressure, and the two could add up.
If your numbers dip too low, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or unsteady when you stand up quickly. To be clear, this is theoretical and based only on weak, anecdotal evidence, so it's usually not a big deal. Still, if you're adding a concentrated beta-glucan supplement, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your readings.

About Beta-glucans
What is Beta-glucans?
- High cholesterol
- Heart health
- Immune support
- Blood sugar control
- Wound care (topical)
Beta-glucans are natural fibers found in oats, barley, mushrooms, and yeast. The strongest evidence supports the oat and barley types for modestly lowering cholesterol and blood sugar, while immune-related claims from yeast and mushroom sources are far less proven. They are generally well tolerated, but check with your pharmacist before starting any supplement.
