Rifabutin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.

Here's the short version on pairing BMPEA with rifabutin. Your body clears rifabutin partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab (test tube) studies, BMPEA slowed that enzyme by about a third. If that holds true in people, rifabutin could clear a little more slowly and build up, which might mean more of its typical side effects: an upset stomach, a harmless orange-red tint to urine, tears, or sweat, achy joints, or a drop in white blood cells.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based only on lab data, not real patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger concern is BMPEA itself, an amphetamine-like stimulant that can raise heart rate and blood pressure. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Rifabutin capsules are used to prevent disseminated MAC disease — a serious bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium avium complex — in patients with advanced HIV infection.

It is not approved to treat active tuberculosis, and it should not be used alone against active TB. It is also not proven to prevent M. tuberculosis infections.
