Here's the gist for Edurant (rilpivirine). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this HIV medicine out. In lab dish studies, BMPEA slowed that enzyme by roughly a third. If the same thing happens in people, rilpivirine could build up a bit higher than usual, which might bump up the chance of side effects like headache, trouble sleeping, dizziness, mood changes, or, less commonly, effects on your heart rhythm (QT prolongation).

I want to be straight with you: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not real human studies. BMPEA is also a hidden stimulant that's best avoided on its own. Since staying steady on your HIV regimen really matters, please run any supplement past your pharmacist or HIV provider before mixing it in.

Beta-methylphenethylamine (BMPEA) is a synthetic stimulant chemically similar to amphetamine that has been found in some weight-loss and sports supplements, often without being clearly listed on the label. It is not an approved or well-studied dietary ingredient, and regulators have warned that it may carry real cardiovascular risks. Because of safety concerns and the lack of human research, it is best avoided.

What Is Rilpivirine Used For?

Brand names: Edurant, Edurant Ped

Rilpivirine tablets (sold as Edurant, Edurant Ped, and generic rilpivirine) are used along with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection in patients who have not previously been treated with HIV medicines (treatment-naïve). Eligibility depends on age, body weight, and the level of virus in the blood at the start of treatment.

Edurant tablets are also approved, in combination with cabotegravir (Vocabria), for short-term oral use in adults and adolescents who are already virologically suppressed — specifically as a lead-in before starting the long-acting injectable regimen Cabenuva, or as a bridge if a Cabenuva injection dose will be missed.
