Vandetanib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

Here's the gist with vandetanib (Caprelsa): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medication. BMPEA is thought to slow that enzyme down a bit (lab studies suggest up to about a third). If vandetanib clears more slowly, its levels could creep up, which may mean more of its side effects, things like diarrhea, high blood pressure, rash, or changes in your heart rhythm (QT prolongation).

I want to be honest, though: this concern is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not real people. Still, vandetanib is a serious cancer drug, and BMPEA is an unapproved stimulant that can raise blood pressure on its own. I'd steer clear of it and check with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Caprelsa (vandetanib) is used to treat medullary thyroid cancer — a type of thyroid cancer — in adults whose tumor cannot be surgically removed or has spread (locally advanced or metastatic disease) and is causing symptoms or actively growing.

Caprelsa should be used with extra caution in patients whose cancer is slow-growing and not causing symptoms, because the serious risks of the medicine must be carefully weighed against any potential benefit in that setting.
