Theoretically, bitter almond oil may have additive effects with other CNS depressants.
Bitter almond and its oil contain amygdalin, which is hydrolyzed to toxic hydrocyanic acid. This can cause CNS depression and respiratory failure.

Here's the concern with pairing bitter almond and oxymorphone. Oxymorphone is a strong opioid pain reliever that already slows down your breathing and your central nervous system. Bitter almond contains amygdalin, which your body turns into cyanide, and that toxic breakdown can also depress the nervous system and slow breathing. Stacked together, the worry is that they could add up, leading to deeper sedation, slowed or shallow breathing, and trouble staying alert.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is a theoretical interaction based on how these substances work, not on real-world reports. The bigger issue is that bitter almond is genuinely poisonous and shouldn't be taken internally at all. Sweet almonds are the safe choice. If you've used bitter almond, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Oxymorphone Used For?

Brand names: Numorphan, Opana, Opana ER, Opana Injection

Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Tablets (immediate-release) are used to treat acute pain severe enough to require an opioid when other pain treatments are not enough. Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets are used to manage severe, persistent pain that needs to be treated with a daily opioid over an extended period and when other options are inadequate.

Both forms are reserved for situations where non-opioid medicines or other approaches have not worked well enough. Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets are not meant to be taken on an as-needed basis — they are for ongoing, around-the-clock pain management only.
