Bitter almond and its oil contain amygdalin, which is hydrolyzed to toxic hydrocyanic acid. This can cause CNS depression and respiratory failure.

Here's the simple version: hydrocodone already slows down your brain and breathing, especially as a long-acting form taken around the clock. Bitter almond contains amygdalin, which your body can turn into cyanide. In theory, that same toxic breakdown can also depress the nervous system and breathing. Stack the two together and you could, on paper, add more sedation, slowed breathing, dizziness, or confusion on top of what the opioid is already doing.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This is a theoretical concern based on how these chemicals behave, not real-world case reports. The bigger issue is that bitter almond is genuinely poisonous and shouldn't be eaten or used internally at all. Skip it, and chat with your pharmacist or doctor about anything you're tempted to try.
