Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Flurazepam
Flurazepam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Bitter Almond interacts with.
Bitter almond and its oil contain amygdalin, which is hydrolyzed to toxic hydrocyanic acid. This can cause CNS depression and respiratory failure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Flurazepam already slows down your brain to help you sleep, which is exactly why it can leave you drowsy, foggy, or unsteady. Bitter almond contains amygdalin, which the body turns into cyanide. In larger or concentrated amounts that toxin can also depress the nervous system and, in serious cases, slow breathing. Put the two together and the worry is a piling-on effect: deeper sedation, harder-to-wake grogginess, and slowed breathing.
I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on how these chemicals behave, not on real patient reports. Even so, bitter almond is genuinely toxic and shouldn't be taken internally at all. If you want almond, choose ordinary sweet almonds. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with flurazepam.

This page covers Bitter Almond only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Flurazepam page lists 99 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: 1,4-butanediol (major), Activated Charcoal (major), Beer (major), Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (ghb) (major) and Grapefruit (major).
By severity: 8 major · 76 moderate · 15 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Flurazepam page
“Beer and wine sit at the top of this list for good reason. Alcohol taken with flurazepam (Dalmane), a long-acting benzodiazepine sleep medicine, can deepen sedation dangerously, a major-rated and well documented interaction.”

About Bitter Almond
What is Bitter Almond?
- Cough suppressant
- Muscle spasms (antispasmodic)
- Itching and skin conditions
- Flavoring agent
- Sedative or 'narcotic' effects
Bitter almond is a variety of almond that contains amygdalin, a compound the body converts into cyanide, making it potentially poisonous. Because of this serious toxicity risk, bitter almond should not be eaten or used internally, and there is no reliable proof it treats any health condition. If you want almond's nutrition, choose ordinary sweet almonds instead.
About Flurazepam
What Is Flurazepam Used For?
Brand names: Dalmane, Somnol, Apo-Flurazepam, Bio-Flurazepam, Novo-Flurazepam, PMS-Flurazepam, Som Pam
Flurazepam Hydrochloride capsules are used to treat insomnia. Specifically, they help with difficulty falling asleep, frequent wake-ups during the night, and early morning awakening.
Because insomnia is often short-lived, flurazepam is generally intended for short-term use. If sleep problems don't improve within 7 to 10 days of treatment, a healthcare provider should evaluate whether an underlying medical or psychiatric condition may be the cause.
