Here's the simple version. Amitriptyline (Elavil) already has a calming, sedating side to it. It can make you drowsy, foggy, or slow to react, especially when you first start it or after a dose increase. Bitter almond is a different story: the amygdalin in it turns into cyanide in the body, which can slow down your nervous system and breathing. So the worry on file is that the two together could pile up and leave you more sedated than expected.

To be clear, this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not something proven in studies. But honestly, the bigger issue is that bitter almond is genuinely toxic and shouldn't be taken internally at all. Stick with ordinary sweet almonds, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any new supplement.
