Here's the thing to keep in mind: dextroamphetamine is already a strong stimulant for your brain and body, and bitter orange brings its own stimulant punch through a compound called synephrine. When you stack two stimulants together, their effects can add up. That means a real possibility of a faster heart rate, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or palpitations beyond what your medication alone would cause.

To be fair, this concern is largely theoretical and the evidence is limited, so it's not a guaranteed problem. Still, since both can stress the heart, I'd play it safe. If you're considering a weight-loss or energy supplement that contains bitter orange, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first rather than combining them on your own.

Theoretically, bitter orange might increase levels of drug metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that octopamine, a constituent of bitter orange, weakly inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation with bitter orange and your dextroamphetamine. Lab studies hint that a compound in bitter orange called octopamine may weakly block CYP2D6, one of the enzymes that helps clear this stimulant from your body. If that slowdown happened, dextroamphetamine could linger a bit longer, which in theory might nudge up effects like a faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or a reduced appetite.

The bigger concern, honestly, is that bitter orange is itself a stimulant. Stacking two stimulants can add up and strain your heart, even if the enzyme effect never shows in real people (it has only been seen in test tubes, not humans). I'd skip this combo and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any energy or weight-loss supplement.

What Is Dextroamphetamine Used For?

Brand name: Dexedrine

Dextroamphetamine treats two conditions: ADHD and narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness). It is available in multiple forms — tablets, extended-release capsules, oral solution, and a skin patch — and the approved age ranges vary by product.

Oral tablets (Zenzedi, generic) and oral solutions (Procentra, generic) are approved for ADHD in children as young as 3 years old and for narcolepsy. Extended-release capsules (Dexedrine, generic) are approved for ADHD in children ages 6 to 16 and for narcolepsy. Xelstrym, the transdermal patch, is approved only for ADHD — in adults and children ages 6 and older — and is not indicated for narcolepsy.
