Black Hoof Mushroom + Esomeprazole
Esomeprazole brand name: Nexium.
We found no known interaction between Black Hoof Mushroom and Esomeprazole in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the label for Esomeprazole states a food rule worth keeping to.
Black Hoof Mushroom and Esomeprazole
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Esomeprazole and Black Hoof Mushroom in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Esomeprazole
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Esomeprazole is filed under 6 classifications — including proton pump inhibitors (ppis), cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) inhibitors, cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) inducers. Black Hoof Mushroom has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) substrates (moderate), cytochrome p450 2e1 (cyp2e1) substrates (moderate) and immunosuppressants (moderate) — and none of Esomeprazole’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

Some Esomeprazole Products Have a Food Rule — Black Hoof Mushroom Should Not Break It
At least one FDA label for a product containing Esomeprazole says to take it on an empty stomach. Most supplements — Black Hoof Mushroom included — are taken with a meal, so the easy mistake is swallowing both together at breakfast. Where that rule applies, keep Esomeprazole on its own and move Black Hoof Mushroom to a meal later in the day.
This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Esomeprazole products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.
Table 2: Recommended Dosage of Esomeprazole Magnesium Delayed-Release Capsules in Pediatric Patients by Indication Indication Patient Age Recommended Dosage Duration Healing of EE 12 years to 17 years Esomeprazole magnesium delayed-release capsules: 20 mg or 40 mg once daily 4 to 8 Weeks Treatment of Symptomatic GERD 12 years to 17 years Esomeprazole magnesium delayed-release capsules: 20 mg once
From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Esomeprazole — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. Read the label on DailyMed ›
A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.
Questions About Black Hoof Mushroom or Esomeprazole
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Black Hoof Mushroom or Esomeprazole, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:
- Can You Take Xarelto And Nexium Together? ›
- Can You Take Zyrtec And Xyzal Together? ›
- Taking Nexium With Ibuprofen ›
Not quite your question? Ask our pharmacists directly — it is free, there is no account required, and answers usually come back within 24 hours.
See Every Supplement That Interacts With Esomeprazole
This page covers Black Hoof Mushroom only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Esomeprazole page lists 154 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate) and Adrafinil (moderate).
By severity: 3 major · 102 moderate · 49 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Esomeprazole page
“St. John's wort can lower the amount of esomeprazole (Nexium) in your blood by speeding up how the liver clears it, which can leave heartburn or ulcer treatment falling short.”

About Black Hoof Mushroom
What is Black Hoof Mushroom?
- Immune system support
- Antioxidant support
- General wellness
- Traditional cancer-supportive use
- Inflammation
Black Hoof Mushroom (Phellinus linteus) is a medicinal mushroom long used in East Asian traditional medicine, mainly for immune support. Most of the supporting evidence comes from laboratory and animal studies, and high-quality human research is limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a health condition or take other medicines.
Phellinus linteus · Hymenochaetaceae · Fruiting body (the woody mushroom that grows on tree trunks) · Capsules, tablets, powdered extracts, teas, and tinctures
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Black Hoof Mushroom is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Black Hoof Mushroom record says about it on its own.
Black Hoof Mushroom: dosing
There is no well-established standard dose for Black Hoof Mushroom. The amount can vary widely depending on the product, the type of extract, and how it is made. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not take more than recommended. Because formulations differ so much, it is a good idea to review the specific product with your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

About Esomeprazole
What Is Esomeprazole Used For?
Brand name: Nexium
Esomeprazole lowers stomach acid. Prescription oral products are used for short-term healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus lining from acid), keeping it healed, and treating heartburn and other symptoms of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). They are also used to lower the risk of NSAID-associated stomach ulcers in adults at risk, and to treat pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in adults (long-term treatment). With amoxicillin and clarithromycin, they treat H. pylori infection to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.
Esomeprazole sodium for injection (intravenous) is used for short-term treatment of GERD with erosive esophagitis when oral treatment is not possible or appropriate. It is also used in adults to reduce the risk of rebleeding of stomach or duodenal ulcers after endoscopic treatment of acute bleeding. Over-the-counter esomeprazole products treat frequent heartburn (2 or more days a week) and are not meant for immediate relief.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Esomeprazole
