Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Hydrocortisone
Hydrocortisone falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Black Hoof Mushroom interacts with.
In animal research, polysaccharides from black hoof mushroom and black hoof mushroom extract stimulate immune responses.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thinking on this combo. When you take hydrocortisone for something like an autoimmune flare, severe allergies, or lupus, part of the goal is to calm down an overactive immune system. Black Hoof Mushroom appears to do the opposite, it seems to gently stimulate immune activity. So in theory, the mushroom could push against what your hydrocortisone is trying to accomplish and make it work a little less well.
I want to be honest about how shaky this is. The concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from people, so we don't actually know if it matters in real life. Still, if you're relying on hydrocortisone to control a real condition, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement. Please don't change your hydrocortisone dose on your own.
