Azilsartan falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Blond Psyllium interacts with.

Theoretically, psyllium might increase, decrease, or have no effect on the absorption of oral drugs.
Psyllium seems to have variable effects on drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take psyllium 30-60 minutes after oral medications. Animal research shows that blond psyllium delays and increases the absorption of metformin and ethinyl estradiol. Conversely, case reports and animal research suggest that blond psyllium might reduce absorption of lithium, digoxin, olanzapine, and carbamazepine. Finally, some pharmacokinetic studies show that psyllium does not affect the absorption of levothyroxine or warfarin.

Here's the gist with Edarbi (azilsartan) and psyllium: that thick gel psyllium forms in your gut can grab onto pills sitting nearby and slightly change how much gets absorbed. Honestly, this is more of a theoretical concern than a proven problem with azilsartan specifically. The research that exists looks at other drugs, not this one, so we don't know the exact direction here.

If absorption did drop a bit, your blood pressure might not be controlled quite as well. Azilsartan isn't a prodrug, so there's no hidden flip to worry about. The easy fix is timing: take your azilsartan first, then take psyllium about 30 to 60 minutes later. That simple gap sidesteps the whole issue. Check with your pharmacist if you'd like to confirm your routine.

What Is Azilsartan Used For?

Brand name: Edarbi

Azilsartan medoxomil tablets — sold as both the generic Azilsartan Medoxomil and the brand Edarbi — are approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Bringing blood pressure down lowers the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially stroke and heart attack.

The medication can be used on its own or alongside other blood pressure medicines. It is not a cure for high blood pressure, and managing the condition fully often involves lifestyle steps like limiting sodium, exercising, and quitting smoking.
