Borage + Effient
Effient brand name: Prasugrel.
Borage has a moderate interaction with Effient. Theoretically, borage seed oil may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Effient
Effient falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Borage interacts with.
In healthy individuals, borage seed oil supplementation does not seem to affect platelet aggregation. However, gamma-linolenic acid, a constituent of borage seed oil, seems to decrease platelet aggregation by 45% and increase the risk of bleeding by 40% in animal and clinical research.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind: Effient (prasugrel) is already a strong blood thinner that stops platelets from clumping, and you usually take it alongside aspirin. Borage seed oil contains GLA, which in some animal and clinical studies lowered platelet stickiness by around 45% and bumped up bleeding by about 40%. Stacking that on top of Effient could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher.
To be fair, this is a theoretical concern, and in healthy people borage didn't clearly change platelet activity. Still, watch for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that won't stop. Don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before adding borage.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Effient page
“Effient (prasugrel) keeps platelets from forming clots, usually after a stent or a heart attack, and I would not pair supplements with it casually. Roughly 200 ingredients on this list can thin the blood further and raise bleeding risk, including two of the five rated major.”

About Borage
What is Borage?
- Eczema and dry skin
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Inflammation
- Respiratory complaints
- Mood and stress
Borage is a Mediterranean herb whose seed oil is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid studied mostly for skin conditions and arthritis with mixed results. The plant's leaves and flowers can contain liver-toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids, so only use products clearly labeled 'PA-free' and talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking it.
About Prasugrel
What Is Prasugrel Used For?
Brand name: Prasugrel
Prasugrel tablets (brand names Effient and Prasugrel) are used to lower the risk of dangerous blood clots — including clots that can block a stent — in people with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which includes unstable angina (chest pain at rest) and heart attacks (both NSTEMI and STEMI types). It is used specifically in patients who are being treated with a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), in which a catheter is used to open a blocked coronary artery, often with a stent.
Effient has been shown to reduce the combined rate of cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack, or nonfatal stroke compared to clopidogrel — with the benefit driven mainly by fewer heart attacks.
