Dipyridamole falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Borage interacts with.

Theoretically, borage seed oil may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In healthy individuals, borage seed oil supplementation does not seem to affect platelet aggregation. However, gamma-linolenic acid, a constituent of borage seed oil, seems to decrease platelet aggregation by 45% and increase the risk of bleeding by 40% in animal and clinical research.

Here's the key thing to know: dipyridamole already works to keep your platelets from clumping together, which lowers your clotting risk after a heart valve replacement. Borage seed oil supplies gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), and some research suggests GLA can make platelets a little less sticky on its own. Stack that on top of dipyridamole, and you may slightly nudge your bleeding risk upward.

What might that look like? Easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. The evidence here is fairly modest and mostly theoretical, so don't panic. But because you're on dipyridamole for a serious reason, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding borage rather than starting it on your own.

What Is Dipyridamole Used For?

Brand names: Persantine, Dipyridamole, Persantin, Persantin Injection, Persantin Retard

Dipyridamole tablets are used alongside warfarin (a blood thinner) to help prevent dangerous blood clots from forming after cardiac valve replacement surgery. It is not used alone for this purpose — it works as an add-on to anticoagulant therapy.

Dipyridamole Injection is used as an alternative to exercise during thallium myocardial perfusion imaging — a type of heart scan that checks blood flow through the coronary arteries. It is given to patients who are unable to exercise adequately for the test.
