Demecarium falls under CHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Boxwood interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that boxwood extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Theoretically, concurrent use of boxwood with other cholinergic drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of cholinergic side effects.

Here's the quick picture with these two. Demecarium (Humorsol) is an eye drop that works by blocking an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which lets the natural chemical acetylcholine build up and lower pressure inside the eye. Lab tests suggest boxwood extract may block that same enzyme. So in theory, using both could push in the same direction and stack up cholinergic effects.

If that happened, you might notice more of demecarium's usual effects: watery eyes, blurry or dim vision, headache, an upset stomach, or sweating. I want to be honest though, this concern comes only from test-tube studies, not from people, so it's quite uncertain. Before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
