Clomipramine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Boxwood interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that boxwood extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Theoretically, concurrent use of anticholinergic drugs and boxwood might decrease the effectiveness of boxwood or the anticholinergic agent.

Here's the gist with boxwood and clomipramine. Clomipramine has anticholinergic effects, meaning part of how it acts is by tamping down a brain and body chemical called acetylcholine. Boxwood, at least in test-tube studies, seems to do the opposite and may raise acetylcholine by blocking the enzyme that breaks it down. So in theory the two could partly cancel each other out, possibly making clomipramine a little less effective or shifting how you feel.

I want to be honest though: this is only laboratory data, not something proven in people, so the real-world risk is low. Still, boxwood itself is toxic and not well studied. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your clomipramine on your own.

Clomipramine — sold as Anafranil and under the generic name Clomipramine Hydrochloride — is approved to treat obsessions and compulsions in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This includes adults and children/adolescents ages 10 to 17.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
