Evidence from in vitro research suggests that boxwood extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Theoretically, concurrent use of anticholinergic drugs and boxwood might decrease the effectiveness of boxwood or the anticholinergic agent.

Here's the basic idea: nortriptyline has anticholinergic activity, meaning it tends to block a brain chemical called acetylcholine. That's part of why it can cause dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, and drowsiness. Boxwood, on the other hand, has been shown in lab dish studies to do the opposite, boosting acetylcholine by slowing the enzyme that breaks it down.

So in theory, the two could partly work against each other, and boxwood might nudge down some of nortriptyline's effect. I want to be honest, though, this is only test-tube research, not studies in people, so we really don't know how meaningful it is in real life. Since boxwood itself can be toxic and the evidence is so thin, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them rather than changing anything on your own.
