Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen

Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Bridelia interacts with.

In animals, orally administered extracts of Bridelia ferruginea stem bark inhibit ADP/adrenaline-induced thrombosis by approximately 62%.Theoretically, Bridelia might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, others), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Combogesic combines two pain relievers, and the ibuprofen half is the part that matters here. Ibuprofen is an NSAID, and like aspirin it already nudges your blood toward being a little slower to clot. In animal studies, Bridelia ferruginea seemed to reduce clot formation too. So putting the two together could, in theory, add up and raise your chance of bleeding or bruising.

Keep in mind this is theoretical, based only on animal data, not human studies. Still, watch for warning signs like easy bruising, nosebleeds, dark or bloody stools, or stomach upset, which ibuprofen can also cause on its own. If you take blood thinners or use Combogesic regularly, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Bridelia.
