Why this applies to Effient

Effient falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Bridelia interacts with.

Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, others), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing about Effient (prasugrel): it's already a strong blood thinner that keeps your platelets from clumping together, and you're usually taking it alongside aspirin. Bridelia, based on animal research, seems to slow clotting on its own too. So when you stack the two, you're essentially adding one blood-thinning effect on top of another.

What that could look like in real life is easier bruising, nosebleeds that take a while to stop, bleeding gums, or cuts that keep oozing. I want to be straight with you though: this is a theoretical concern drawn from lab and animal data, not from studies in people. Still, with a potent drug like Effient, I wouldn't take chances. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Bridelia.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Effient page

“Effient (prasugrel) keeps platelets from forming clots, usually after a stent or a heart attack, and I would not pair supplements with it casually. Roughly 200 ingredients on this list can thin the blood further and raise bleeding risk, including two of the five rated major.”
