Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract slightly induces CYP1A2 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates; however, this has not been studied in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to help break down clomipramine. Lab studies hint that Bulbine natalensis may nudge that enzyme to work a little faster. If that happened in real life, your body could clear clomipramine slightly quicker, which might leave you with less drug in your system and a weaker effect on your OCD symptoms.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. This comes only from test-tube research, and the effect looked small. It has never been confirmed in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Since clomipramine is a medication you don't want to under-treat, the safer move is simply to mention this supplement to your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

Here's the gist for Clomipramine (Anafranil): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 (along with a few others) to help clear this medicine out of your body. In lab dishes, Bulbine natalensis seemed to rev up that enzyme, which in theory could make your body break clomipramine down faster and lower its level in your blood.

If that happened, the worry would be a weaker effect, meaning your OCD symptoms might creep back. That said, this is very early, theory-only evidence from lab and animal work, not from people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Clomipramine is a medicine you don't want bouncing around, so please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding this supplement.
